Episcopal

Since 1991, Church of Our Saviour, Plainville, CT and St. Gabriel's, East Berlin, CT have been parishes in partnership. This means that they retain separate facilities, vestries and budgets while sharing clergy and staff. Through this partnership, each parish is able to carry out their overall mission of Outreach, Stewardship, Service, Worship, Education, Evangelism and Pastoral Care in their respective communities, while retaining its own unique characters.

Both are family sized congregations who worship on Sunday mornings with a celebration of Holy Eucharist. (See each parish's webpage for service times and directions.) Our services include scripture readings, hymns, a sermon, prayers and communion. As Partner Parishes, we share clergy. Our Rector, the Reverend Audrey Scanlan, Priest Associate, the Reverend Robert Watson and our Deacon, the Reverend Doreen Bottone, alternate each Sunday, traveling between the two parishes.

We understand faith formation to be a lifelong process and support parishioners' spiritual journeys by offering education programs for children and adults, a weekly scripture study group, outreach events and informal fellowship activities that strengthen our communities' ties. Please refer to each parish's webpage for more specific programming opportunities.

We would love to greet you on a Sunday morning in the future. For more information, please call our parish office: Church of Our Saviour, Plainville: 860-747-3109 and St. Gabriel's, East Berlin: 860-828-3735.

May God richly bless you.
The Reverend Audrey Scanlan, Rector

ABOUT THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH In the Episcopal Church of America (ECUSA) each parish is a discrete body that worships together, engages in outreach and service to the community and nourishes each other in spiritual development. Individual parishes are led by a Rector who works with a staff and a body of elected lay people (the Vestry) to design and direct the business of the church in worship, prayer, education, pastoral care, financial health, care of the physical plant and outreach. Vestry members serve in rotating three year terms. The Vestry is led by an executive council of two wardens, a treasurer and a clerk. The business of the church is conducted at monthly Vestry meetings and at the Annual Meeting each January.
Each parish is a part of a greater Diocese. In Connecticut, there are 177 parishes in our Diocese. The Diocese is supported by the parishes in an annual 12 1/2 % pledge of each parishes budget. The Diocese of Connecticut is led by Bishops: The Right Reverend Andrew D. Smith, Bishop, The Right Reverend James Curry, Bishop Suffragan and The Right Reverend Laura Ahrens, Bishop Suffragan. The Diocese gathers annually in October for Convention to do the business of the church. Diocesan offices are in Hartford. To visit their web site, Click Here.
Each Diocese is part of a greater Province. In the ECUSA there are nine provinces. Connecticut is part of Province #1 which includes the New England States.
The ECUSA gathers every three years for its General Convention to review and refine the workings of the church. The ECUSA elects a Presiding Bishop to serve a nine year term. Our Presiding Bishop is The Most Reverend Katherine Jefferts Shori, elected in June of 2006.. The National Church offices are in New York City. To visit their web site, Click Here.
